How would you measure the actual quality of life in a city or its districts? The researchers from the Data4City project would tell you to use the PinCity App! As a new approach to collecting qualitative data, this App is an essential result of the collaborative project between the TU Dresden Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture and Spectos, with the overriding goal to develop a citizen-oriented city data platform.
With the PinCity App it becomes possible to obtain targeted and sustainable information and data on topics and factors that influence the quality of life in urban districts. The app is being successfully tested in a district of Dresden. Citizens can answer site-specific questions on topics such as cleanliness and safety and are encouraged to share ideas and problems with other users.Â
What makes this project unique is the immediate transfer of the data via smartphone into visualization cockpits. This enables a fast evaluation of the data on a real-time basis, allowing city services and urban planners to derive concrete measures for the future planning of residential districts promptly and strategically.
If you are interested in supporting the idea of citizen-oriented urban development, you can download and test the PinCity App for Android and IOS. The project is currently also looking for partners who would like to use the app for real citizen participation projects.
